December 19, 2023What Are Moths Like?
Noticing butterfly-like flying insects inside your home at night ? Did you know that, before being like that, moths actually evolved through a series of different forms ? Here are a few points to help you better understand what are moths like exactly, in order to be able to distinguish them.
First of all, it is good to know that, in addition to their small size, different moth species are characterized by the presence of two pairs of wings on their bodies : the forewings and the hindwings.
Clothes Moths
Also known as clothing moths, they do represent one of the most frequently encountered types of moth. As their name suggests, clothes moths are mainly found in clothing closets, dressers and wardrobes.
While adult moths can measure close to 1 cm, moth eggs and larvae are much smaller. Which makes them difficult to see with the naked eye. Moths are generally yellowish in color, sometimes turning orange. Wings, on the other hand, are usually either gray or brown.
Pantry Moths
Also called meal moths, pantry moths are among the most common species in North America. In search of food, these tiny insects can be spotted in your kitchen and pantry. However, their eggs are microscopic, making them virtually impossible to detect. After their transformation into flying insects, however, those meal moths can measure over 10 mm, with a wingspan reaching up to 20 mm. Pantry moths tend to be creamy-white in color, with bicolored wings.
Now that you know a little bit more about what moths look like, you should not hesitate to act promptly to get rid of those moths if you suspect their presence. By doing so, you will efficiently prevent these small parasites from infesting your home any further.
